James Horne spent his youth largely in Winnipeg, Manitoba with a stint in Thunder Bay, Ontario following his father’s transfer there with the Federal Business Development Bank.

To put himself through university, Jim worked in a variety of jobs including work as a machine operator for Labatt’s and as a timber cruiser in northwestern Ontario.

Following graduation from the University of Manitoba, Jim and his wife moved to Kamloops where they have remained ever since. Jim has been married for 36 years and is the proud father of two grown daughters. Having only raised girls, Jim is enjoying spending his leisure time with his two grandsons, to whom he is affectionately known as “Bumpa”.

Throughout his career, Jim has served as a volunteer to many organizations. He has been the President of the Kamloops Bar Association, the Yale representative for the Canadian Bar Association and a founding member of the Trial Lawyers of British Columbia. He is also an active member of the Hills of Peace Lutheran Church.

In recognition of his many years of excellence in his chosen profession, Jim received his appointment as Queen’s Counsel in 1991.

Jim is an avid reader and enjoys many a spirited conversation on a wide range of topics from politics to history to sports and entertainment. He loves to garden and is still searching for the perfect tomato. Surprisingly, being a dog owner in his younger days, he is currently the owner of a large grey cat named Biggy.
